Frog Level History

So named by the local community because of its low-lying location along Richland Creek, the “frog level” when the area flooded. This area has been known as such since the railroad tracks were laid down.

The Whole Bloomin'Thing

Haywood County’s spring festival kicks off the growing season with new excitement each year as The “Whole Bloomin’ Thing” Spring Festival continues to grow. Beautiful flowering baskets, vegetable and herbs, berry bushes, potted plants, trees, perennials, are all a beautiful assortment of color, size and variations. Fresh local produce & organic beef. Local Food Vendors from turkey legs, hot dogs, hamburgers, BBQ, fresh ice cream, kettle corn, fresh squeezed lemonade, and much much more. Each year, Children’s Activities will vary.

The neighborhood was once a thriving commercial hub, with merchants selling everything from dry goods and groceries to mining equipment and timber. Today, Frog Level is a beloved destination for locals and tourists alike, offering a unique blend of history, culture, and community.

What makes Frog Level so special is its rich history and distinctive character. The neighborhood is home to many historic buildings, including the Frog Level Depot, which served as a stop on the railway line between Asheville and Murphy. The neighborhood is home to a diverse array of shops, restaurants, and businesses, including craft breweries, antique stores, and specialty shops. Frog Level is a place where old meets new, where tradition and innovation coexist in harmony, and where visitors can experience the best of what Western North Carolina has to offer.

The Whole Bloomin’ Thing Festival

Returning in 2023 – The Whole Bloomin’ Thing Festival is an annual event that celebrates the arrival of spring in Historic Frog Level. Held in early May, the festival features live music, local food and drink vendors, and a variety of arts and crafts booths. Visitors can browse handmade jewelry, pottery, paintings, and other unique items, while kids can enjoy face painting, games, and other activities. The festival is a beloved tradition in Frog Level, bringing together locals and visitors alike for a day of fun, food, and festivities. With its lively atmosphere, beautiful scenery, and wide range of vendors and activities, the Whole Bloomin’ Thing Festival is a must-see event for anyone visiting Historic Frog Level in the springtime.

The tradition of this vibrant Mother’s Day weekend festival featuring local growers and artisans has been a community favorite for over 20 years. This year the festival will feature multiple growers specializing in native edible plants, garden vegetables and herbs, pollinator species, sustainable agriculture, medicinal plants, and fruit trees. Artisans from throughout our region will be presenting their original organic crafts including jewelry, woodcrafts, soaps, fabric and woolen art, sculpture, ink drawings and paintings.

The event is promoted by the Historic Frog Level Merchant’s Association and sponsored by the Haywood County TDA, Frog Level Brewing Company, The Funky Fern Emporium, Panacea Coffee House, Depot Village, Soul Sisters Depot and Cultivate Garden Shop.
